SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (10-18)

at LOS ANGELES DODGERS (15-13)

First pitch: Wednesday, 10:10 p.m. ET
Line: San Francisco +150, Los Angeles -160, Total: 7.0

The Giants will be hoping to get back on track with a win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

San Francisco is off to a horrible start to the season, as this club was supposed to be a contender this year. While those dreams aren’t dead just yet, the Giants badly need to put together a few winning streaks to get themselves out of the major hole that they’ve dug for themselves. The Dodgers, meanwhile, are playing some fantastic baseball right now. They have won five of their past six games, including a 13-5 win over this same Giants team on Tuesday. The teams have now split victories against one another this season, but Los Angeles will be the more confident of the two when they meet on Wednesday. The starters in this contest are set to be RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 6.32 ERA, 35 K) for the Giants and LHP Julio Urias (0-0, 1.59 ERA, 4 K) for the Dodgers. Samardzija has been miserable for the Giants this season, and he must regain his form soon for San Francisco. Urias, meanwhile, was excellent in the minors and has shown he can perform at a high level in the majors already. One trend that stands out when looking at this game is that Los Angeles is 21-34 against the money line versus teams that are averaging 0.9 homers or less per game over the past two seasons. SS Brandon Crawford (Groin) remains out for the Giants, and 1B Adrian Gonzalez (Forearm) is questionable for the Dodgers.

The Giants can really use a win on Wednesday, but they’ll be sending their coldest pitcher to the mound for this one. Samardzija has been as lousy as can be for San Francisco this year, but he is coming off of his best start of the year on Apr. 28. The righty faced the Padres in that one and he pitched seven innings of two-run ball. He struck out five batters and walked only one, and the Giants will be hoping that he turned a corner in that start. In his only appearance in Los Angeles last season, Samardzija pitched six innings of three-run ball. At this point, the Giants would definitely take another performance like that one. Offensively, C Buster Posey (.342 BA, 2 HR, 4 RBI) is going to need to do some damage at the plate in this one. Posey has been excellent for San Francisco this season, but he has not really produced many runs for the team. Both of his homers this season have, however, come against lefties, so he should be able to get to Urias on Wednesday. He’ll need some help from his teammates, though.

The Dodgers are on a roll right now and they’ll be hoping that Julio Urias can keep them going on Wednesday. The talented youngster has made only one start this season, but that came against this same Giants team on Apr. 27. Urias pitched 5.2 innings in that game, allowing only one earned run on four hits. He did, however, walk four batters, and he’ll need to be a bit better with his control this time around. Urias would be wise to throw as many strikes as possible in this one, though. The Giants really struggle at the plate, so there is no reason that the lefty should be intimidated on Wednesday. Offensively, both 3B Justin Turner (.385 BA, 1 HR, 14 RBI) and OF Yasiel Puig (.245 BA, 5 HR, 17 RBI) are guys that have gotten to Jeff Samardzija in their careers. They are a combined 6-for-13 against the righty, and they should be able to get on base in this one as well. SS Corey Seager (.306 BA, 5 HR, 17 RBI) is another player to watch, as he is truly capable of hitting anybody in the league at this point. It’s not likely that a guy like Samardzija will give him too much trouble moving forward.
