Odds to Win Tournament

Some of the world’s top golfers head to Austin for the exciting WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event on Wednesday. This event features 64 golfers and pins them up against one another. The guy that has really shown out in this tournament is Jason Day. Day won this thing last year, defeating Louis Oosthuizen in the finals. It was Day’s second time winning this tournament, and that gives him more wins here than any other golfer that will be out there this weekend. Day’s other win came in 2014, and Rory McIlroy was actually the guy that won in between Day’s two victories. Tiger Woods is the golfer that has actually won this event most all-time, as Woods has won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play three times in his career. Woods is, however, dealing with back issues and he is not expected to return until at least April. He had recently expressed a desire to be back on the course for The Masters, but it’s not likely that his back will allow for that to happen. With that out of the way, let’s now take a look at which golfers could win this event:

Rory McIlroy (6-to-1) - As previously mentioned, Rory McIlroy has won this event in the past. He did so back in 2015, when he was the first seed in the entire tournament. The guy that ended up facing him in the finals was Gary Woodland, and it ended with a score of 4 & 2. Look for McIlroy to come out and shred this course up starting on Wednesday. He certainly has the momentum, as he was absolutely brilliant at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. McIlroy shot a 9-under to finish tied for fourth in that one, and he did most of his damage in the final round. Don’t be afraid to ride him at 6-to-1.

Jason Day (13-to-1) - Taking Jason Day in this tournament really shouldn’t be much of a question, especially with these ridiculous odds. Getting somebody that has won two of the past three Dell Match Play tournaments at 13-to-1 is pretty inexplicable, and it’s something you can’t pass up on this weekend. Day might not be off to the best start this season, but he is also far too good to keep playing this poorly. Look for his confidence in himself at this tournament to really show, and don’t be shocked if it sparks his resurgence for the season.

Paul Casey (33-to-1) - Paul Casey has never won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event, but he has certainly come as close as could be. Casey was the runner-up in both 2009 and 2010, and he will definitely be hoping to change the ending this weekend. Casey has the balanced game that is required to win these tournaments, so it really shouldn’t be all that shocking if he were to finally break through here. What is shocking is the fact that a guy with his success here is getting 33-to-1 odds. Take advantage while you can.

Brooks Koepka (90-to-1) - When looking for a dark horse to win this tournament then look no further than Koepka. Koepka might be having a down year thus far, but he is also one of the most talented players on the TOUR. If he can get hot then he can definitely find a way to play deep into this tournament. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get him at these odds, as even a quarter-unit would end up paying off huge if he were to put it all together.
