NEW YORK KNICKS (23-33)

at OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER (31-25)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. ET
Line: Oklahoma City -7, Total: 218

Can the Thunder rebound from getting destroyed by the Warriors and Wizards?

The Knicks broke a four-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon, getting a surprising 94-90 victory over the visiting Spurs (NYK +9) in front of a national television audience. Down six at half, New York outscored San Antonio by 10 points in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Knicks are now 12th in the Eastern Conference at 23-33 (30-26 ATS), but only three games out of a playoff spot. They’ll retake the floor on Wednesday night after a couple days off with a showdown against the Thunder on the road. OKC has lost two straight games to the Warriors and Wizards by an average margin of 19 points. The Thunder sit at seventh in the West with a 31-25 record (30-25-1 ATS). They’re within 3.5 games of fourth place and hold a 5.5-game cushion over the eighth-place Nuggets. Over the last five seasons, teams that have allowed at least 105 points in three straight games (OKC) are 79-43 ATS against teams coming off of a win of six points or fewer. In the same timeframe, games involving a road team attempting to revenge a loss in which their opponent scored at least 110 points—the Knicks lost to the Thunder 112-103 in late November—and coming off an upset victory are 70-29 Under when the total is at least 200. Knicks C Joakim Noah is questionable to play with a hamstring injury, while Oklahoma City C Enes Kanter remains out indefinitely.

The Knicks are in the middle of the pack offensively, ranking 14th with an offensive efficiency rating of 108.4 points scored per 100 possessions. They’re 25th in DEFF, allowing 111.4 points per 100 possessions. Averaging 96.6 possessions per 48 minutes, they’re right in the middle in the league in terms of pace. While management’s most recent mishaps have taken the direct pressure off of him, SF Carmelo Anthony (23.2 PPG, 6.1 RPG) remains an object of intense scrutiny and speculation in the Big Apple. He’s played strongly recently, though: He has scored at least 25 points in four straight games and is shooting nearly 54% from the floor during that stretch. The Knicks are certainly getting their money’s worth while he remains in town, as he’s averaging 35.2 minutes per game in February. PF Kristaps Porzingis (18.5 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 2.0 BPG) continues to develop nicely as the franchise’s future star, and he has thus far avoided the fatigue that affected him past last season’s halfway point. He showed the extent of his versatility against the Spurs, grabbing seven boards, racking up four blocks and hitting three three-pointers. PG Derrick Rose (17.6 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 4.4 APG) joins Melo as a key contributor who will likely play somewhere else next year, but he has been quite effective at times. He’s shooting 61% in his last three games. Young C Willy Hernangomez (6.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG) has gotten more minutes with Noah (5.0 PPG, 8.7 RPG) sitting out the last four games. He had 16 points and 16 boards in only 25 minutes against the Nets on Feb. 1. SG Courtney Lee (10.1 PPG, 3.2 RPG) and backup PG Brandon Jennings (8.7 PPG, 5.0 APG, 1.0 SPG) provide significant minutes in the backcourt.

The Thunder sneak into the NBA’s top ten DEFF teams, as they allow only 107.5 points per 100 possessions. They’re weaker offensively, scoring 107.2 points per 100 possessions (20th in NBA). They average 97.9 possessions per 48 minutes, which is the ninth-fastest pace in the league. That ball-pushing mentality can be largely attributed to PG Russell Westbrook (30.9 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 10.1 APG, 1.6 SPG), who is having one of the most impressive statistical seasons in league history. If he maintains his average of a triple-double, he’ll join Oscar Robertson as the only player to ever do it. He scored 47 points on 26 shots in the blowout loss to Golden State on Saturday, then showed his fatigue in shooting 5-of-19 from the floor and playing only 24 minutes in the blowout loss to the Wizards on Monday. SG Victor Oladipo (16.0 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.2 SPG) only played 18 minutes in that one after five straight games in which he played at least 35 minutes, and he only managed to score six points. On the season as a whole, though, he’s proven himself to be a capable backcourt partner to Westbrook. C Steven Adams (12.2 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 1.1 BPG) is a strong presence inside, and one of the better defensive centers in the league. SF Andre Roberson (6.5 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 1.0 BPG) and PF Domantas Sabonis (6.1 PPG, 3.7 RPG) leave something to be desired as starting forwards, mostly on the offensive end. With Kanter (14.4 PPG, 6.7 RPG in only 21.6 MPG) out, this team finds itself with a severe lack of scoring power. SF Jerami Grant (5.9 PPG, 1.1 BPG) and SG Anthony Morrow (5.8 PPG) don’t do a ton off the bench as wings, and PG Cameron Payne (5.6 PPG) has struggled to find his rhythm since returning from a serious injury. C Joffrey Lauvergne (5.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG) has taken on an increased role in Kanter’s absence, getting the most minutes of any bench player in the last couple weeks.
