Madison Bumgarner will be hoping to lead the Giants to a win over the Nationals on Sunday afternoon.

The Giants are going to be looking to defeat the Nationals on Sunday afternoon and they’ll be happy to have LHP Madison Bumgarner (10-6, 2.25 ERA, 174 K) on the mound in that one. When San Francisco needs to win a game, Bumgarner is their guy. The Giants once looked like a lock to have the best record in baseball, but they have slowed down a bit lately. Still, Bumgarner should be excited to be on the mound in what will be a widely televised contest and could give his team a nice jolt in this one. Bumgarner does, however, have a talented pitcher looking to outduel him, as RHP Tanner Roark (11-6, 3.02 ERA, 119 K) is on the mound for Washington on Sunday. Roark is not quite as good as Bumgarner, but the Nationals are not going to complain when he is the guy starting for them.

Madison Bumgarner is going to be on the mound for the Giants on Sunday and he is coming off of a very poor outing for San Francisco. Bumgarner pitched just five innings against the Phillies in that game on Aug. 2, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits. The Giants will be hoping that he can bounce back from that one and give them a dominant performance against Washington. As for run support, the Giants will be hoping that C Buster Posey can provide their ace with some help. Posey has been good against Roark in his career, going 4-for-9 with two doubles and an RBI. SS Brandon Crawford can also provide a little something at the plate in this one, as he has two triples and two RBI against Roark in his career.

Tanner Roark is on the mound for the Nationals on Sunday and he’ll be hoping to hold his own in his matchup with Madison Bumgarner in this one. One thing Roark has going for him is that he pitched extremely well against the Giants the last time he faced the team. That was on Jul. 28 and Roark allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work. It’s important that the righty finds a way to keep the ball in the park in this one, as he has allowed two homers in two of the past three games. That type of careless pitching is not a recipe for success and he needs to refine things for this one. Offensively, OF Bryce Harper is going to need to step it up for Washington in this game. He has two homers and three RBI against Bumgarner in his career and the Nationals can use some of that power on Sunday.
