CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (19-17)

at GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (28-5)

Tip-off: Friday, 10:35 p.m. ET
Line: Golden State -12, Total: 206

The Warriors hope to extend their winning streak to six games when they host the struggling Cavaliers on Friday night.

Cleveland has really fallen off without the leadership of injured SF LeBron James on the court, and is 1-6 (SU and ATS) in the past seven games. The club has managed to score at least 100 points just once in that time while shooting at a clip below 40% four separate times. In three of those contests, the Cavs were also considered the favorite and absorbed tough losses against Miami, Detroit and Philadelphia while giving points. In their last game on Wednesday, the 6-point favorite Rockets had no trouble against them with a 103-95 victory, while Cleveland was a 6-point underdog and was outrebounded 50-37. Golden State is moving in the opposite direction of its Friday counterparts, and holds the best record in the NBA after rattling off a five-game winning streak in the first part of a six-game homestand. The Warriors have been unstoppable during this time with 119.2 PPG on 50.3%, and have defeated opponents by an average of 23.0 PPG. It is their phenomenal shooting that has gotten them to this point, and they have a 48.3% FG clip for the season and have made more than 50% of their shots in two of the past four games. Turnovers, which the club really struggled with to start the year, have also been a strength, and that was evident in Wednesday's 117-102 win versus 11.5-point underdog Golden State when they committed just 11 miscues and made 50% FG. It has been mixed results for the Cavaliers on the road, as they are 8-8 SU (6-10 ATS) and will be facing a Warriors team that is a tremendous 15-1 SU (12-4 ATS) when hosting their opponent. It has been all Golden State in the series between these two teams since the 2010-11 season as the team is 6-1 (SU and ATS) while scoring 105+ points in five of the contests. Trends show that Cleveland is 15-8 ATS (65%) as a double-digit road underdog in the past three seasons while Golden State is 20-6 ATS (77%) after a win this season. On the injury front, the Cavs will continue to play without SF LeBron James (knee), C Anderson Varejao (Achilles) and SG Iman Shumpert (shoulder), but will likely have the services of C Timofey Mozgov (acquired) after trading for him recently. On the other side of the ball, the Warriors are without only C Festus Ezeli (ankle) for this matchup.

Cleveland has been a mediocre team through most of the season and sits in the middle of the pack while scoring 100.4 PPG on 45% FG. The Cavs haven’t done much to note on the defensive side of things while giving up 99.5 PPG as their opponents are making 46.9% of their FG attempts (4th-worst in league). PF Kevin Love (17.7 PPG, 10.4 RPG) has excelled recently with double-doubles in his past three games where he averaged 25.0 PPG and 15.0 RPG. He has dominated in his 16 career games (15 starts) against the Warriors while putting up 21.9 PPG (45% FG) and 14.6 RPG. PG Kyrie Irving (21.0 PPG, 5.1 APG, 1.5 SPG) is coming off a season-high, 38-point performance while adding three assists and a steal in the loss to the Rockets. He’s faced Golden State five times in his young career, averaging 20.6 PPG (45% FG), 5.8 APG, 4.0 RPG and 1.8 SPG. PF Tristan Thompson (9.7 PPG, 8.1 RPG) has been great with Varejao down and James out, averaging a double-double (12.2 PPG, 10.6 RPG) over his past five contests. In his two games against this Warriors team last season, he went for 10.5 PPG (43% FG) and 8.5 RPG.

Golden State’s offense can attack opponents in many different ways and that has led to scoring the most points in the league (109.2 PPG) behind some amazing shooting from the floor (48.3% FG, best in NBA). What is often overlooked is the Warriors defense, which has allowed 98.3 PPG (11th in league) on 41.9% shooting (best in NBA). PG Stephen Curry (22.0 PPG, 8.0 APG, 5.1 RPG, 2.2 SPG) has hit 51% of his shots over the past five games and is coming off another huge performance in the win over the Pacers on Wednesday night (21 points, 15 assists, 4 steals). He’s now started seven times against the Cavs in his career and gone for 21.4 PPG (52% FG), 6.7 APG, 5.6 RPG and 1.7 SPG. SG Klay Thompson (21.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 44% threes) is coming off a 40-point performance against Indiana in which he made 6-of-11 three-pointers, and has hit 13-of-22 long-range shots (59%) in the past three contests. Over his career against Cleveland (4 games, 3 starts), Thompson has managed 18.8 PPG (46% FG) while making 14-of-29 threes (48%). SF Draymond Green (11.9 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 1.5 BPG) has been the true difference-maker for this team, and has been a defensive force over the past five games with 10.2 RPG to go with 3.2 SPG and 2.6 BPG. He hasn’t done much against the Cavs in his four previous matchups against them though, netting 7.5 PPG (39% FG) with 7.0 RPG and 1.0 BPG as he came off the bench.
