The Subway Series heads to the Bronx.

It's been a great baseball season in New York, and it has also been a depressing baseball season in New York—it depends on which borough you're in. The Bronx Bombers have been bombing like never before, having hit 27 more homers than any other team in the league, and are headed for at least a Wild Card spot. But in Queens, it's been one disappointment after the next for the Mets, around whom most of the conversation involves which of its stars the team should unload before the trade deadline. This weekend, the two clubs meet up for a three-game series uptown. Before the All-Star break, the Yanks had won six of their last 10 while the Mets went 4-6. The Yankees took two of three in a series at Citi Field earlier this season.

Noah Syndergaard will take the mound in Friday night's opener, and there's a slight chance it could be one of his last starts as a Met. Thor was consistently excellent through May, with an ERA consistently hovering around 3.00. After missing about a month and a half with injury, he returned just before the All-Star break to pitch five innings of one-run ball in a 4-2 win over the Nationals. He gave up seven hits and two walks to only three strikeouts, though, so he was pretty clearly still getting back into form. Domingo German, the Yankees' clear fifth starter, will be their guy on Friday. He was shelled for six runs in four innings against the Indians last Friday.

To nobody's surprise, the perpetual home run derby at Yankee Stadium is headed up by Aaron Judge (25) and Giancarlo Stanton (23), but the Bombers also have five other guys who have hit between 12 and 17 dingers. Almost nobody in the lineup is hitting .280 or above, so expect plenty of fly balls and strikeouts. Asdrubal Cabrera and Brandon Nimmo are each slugging exactly .490 for the Mets, and the positive things that can be said about their offense pretty much ends there.
