Odds to Win Tournament

After an exciting U.S. Open, some of the world’s top golfers will be right back out there for the Travelers Championship on Thursday. Brooks Koepka is the guy that came away with the win last weekend, shooting a 16-under to convincingly win his first major. Koepka tied Rory McIlroy’s record for best score under par in a U.S. Open, and the 27-year-old will be taking a much-deserved week off now. Still, this field is going to be pretty awesome. Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy are all expected to be out there on Thursday. That makes three of the top six golfers in the OWGR, which is more than there usually are at the Travelers Championship. One other big name to keep an eye out for is Bubba Watson. Watson has won this tournament twice in his career, and he’ll definitely be hoping for a third on Sunday. A victory would get him one away from tying Billy Casper’s record of four Travelers Championship wins. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at who might emerge victorious on this 6,844-yard course:

Jordan Spieth (9-to-1) - Jordan Spieth was definitely hoping to contend at the U.S. Open, but he just could not get some of his putts to drop. He usually rolls it a lot better, and an impressive performance at the Travelers Championship should not be ruled out. While Spieth might have disappointed a week ago, he did end his tournament on a positive note. The 23-year-old shot a 69 in the final round, likely helping him build momentum heading into this one. It’s also worth noting that he has won just one event this season, which is not likely to stick. This could very well be the weekend he wins, so don’t be afraid to take a shot on him at 9-to-1.

Patrick Reed (28-to-1) - Patrick Reed is coming off of a very good performance at the U.S. Open, as the 26-year-old finished tied for 13th with a score of six-under on the tournament. Reed is one of the most underrated golfers on the TOUR, as he has one of the most complete games of any golfer. There really are not many weaknesses or holes in his game, and that is going to come in handy at the Travelers Championship. Reed has the type of game that plays well on this golf course, and for that reason is a good value at 28-to-1. He has a legitimate shot to win, and it would give his backers a big payday.

Brendan Steele (40-to-1) - Steele is yet another golfer that is coming off of a strong outing last week, as he actually tied Reed with a score of six-under. Steele now has two top-15 finishes in the past three tournaments, and he should be able to make plenty of noise in Connecticut this weekend. Steele’s strengths are his ability to hit his irons, and also his ability to make putts. He might not be as strong off the tee as some of his opponents, but that shouldn’t matter this weekend. Look for him to do what he needs to be a factor come Sunday, and don’t be afraid to jump on him at 40-to-1.

David Lingmerth (80-to-1) - When looking for a dark horse to win this event on Sunday, Lingmerth definitely stands out. Like Reed and Steele, Lingmerth also played well at the U.S. Open last week. The 29-year-old shot a four-under to finish tied for 21st, and he has now finished inside the top-25 at each of the past three tournaments he’s played in. Obviously winning is a whole other animal, but Lingmerth’s odds are worth taking a shot on. He’s getting 80-to-1 odds this weekend, and a quarter-unit would make for a nice payday if he wins. Crazier things have happened, as he is really in a groove right now.
