CHICAGO WHITE SOX (6-6)

at NEW YORK YANKEES (9-4)

First pitch: Tuesday, 7:05 p.m. ET
Line: Chicago +160, New York -170, Total: 8.5

The Yankees will be going for their ninth straight win when they host the White Sox on Tuesday.

The White Sox were unable to take the first game of this series from the Yankees, as they lost 7-4 on Monday night. Chicago had won four of five before losing that game, so the team is still going to be fairly confident when it takes the field on Tuesday. It will not, however, be as confident as this Yankees team. New York has won eight straight games coming into this one and the team has seen some excellent performances from its pitching staff. The Yankees have allowed four runs or fewer in eight straight games, and the team will be hoping that its starters can continue to perform at a high level. The rotation was a major question mark coming into this season, so New York must feel like it can make a postseason run if that unit is delivering. Trying to keep New York hot will be RHP Luis Severino (1-0, 4.50 ERA, 17 K), who is coming off of the best start of his young career. Trying to outduel the youngster will be RHP Miguel Gonzalez (1-0, 4.22 ERA, 11 K) for Chicago. The trends in this one favor the White Sox, as evidenced by the Yankees’ 1-8 record against the money line in the first half of the season with Severino on the mound over the past two seasons.

The White Sox might be coming off of a loss, but this team is playing pretty well heading into Tuesday’s contest. Chicago has won four of its past six games, and that is without much help from 1B Jose Abreu (.170 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBI). Abreu has gone hitless in four straight games, which makes it very impressive that the White Sox have found ways to win. Fortunately for Chicago, Abreu is 3-for-5 with two RBI against Luis Severino in his career. That means he should be confident that he’ll get on track Tuesday. Another player to watch out for offensively is DH Avisail Garcia (.447 BA, 2 HR, 10 RBI). Garcia is off to a ridiculous start to this season, and he will be hoping to stay hot in this one. As for the pitching, it won’t be easy for Gonzalez to keep this Yankees team in check in this one. He must, however, do everything he can to keep the ball down here. If he hangs too many pitches then he is not going to get out of this start with a lead. He only pitched to five groundballs in his last start, and he was much more effective when he got 11 on the ground in his first start of the year.

The Yankees are rolling right now and OF Aaron Judge (.275 BA, 4 HR, 11 RBI) is as hot as could be for the team. Judge has homered in four of the past seven games for the Yankees, and he also has recorded two hits in four of the past seven as well. Judge is making much better contact this season and that is making him a lot more dangerous at the plate. Look for him to put some fear into Gonzalez in this one. 2B Starlin Castro (.365 BA, 2 HR, 6 RBI) could also do some damage in this one. Castro has gotten at least one hit in nine of the past 10 games, and he has recorded six RBI in that span. He’s really in a groove at the plate and it’s not likely he’ll slow down soon. As for Severino, the righty should be feeling very good coming into this one. He struck out 11 batters in his last trip to the mound, and he’ll just need to do his best to avoid the long-ball in this one.
