PITTSBURGH STEELERS (2-0)
at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (2-0)

Lincoln Financial Field – Philadelphia, PA
Kickoff: Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
Line: Pittsburgh -3.5, Total: 46.5

The Eagles will be looking to surprise everybody by improving to 3-0 with a victory over the Steelers on Sunday.

Pittsburgh is off to a fantastic start this season, as the team has won-and-covered on the road against Washington and then at home against Cincinnati. The Steelers were three-point favorites in that matchup with the Bengals and won 24-16. One thing that has stood out is Pittsburgh’s rushing defense. The Steelers have given up just 101 yards on the ground through two games and that makes them very tough to beat. The Eagles, however, have been equally as impressive through two games. Philadelphia has blown out each of its first two opponents, beating Cleveland 29-10 as a four-point home favorite in Week 1 and then defeating Chicago 29-14 as a three-point road ‘dog. Defensively, the Eagles are making their opponents very uncomfortable. They have forced four turnovers this season and will need do their best to disrupt an elite Steelers offense in this one. One thing worth noting is the fact that the Eagles are 2-0 both SU and ATS when hosting the Steelers since 1992. Pittsburgh did, however, win the last time these teams played, coming away with a 16-14 victory as a four-point home favorite in 2012. Favoring the Steelers in this game is the fact that the Eagles are 0-7 ATS after two or more consecutive wins over the past three seasons. Philadelphia is, however, an impressive 8-1 ATS in non-conference games over the past three seasons and will be feeling confident coming into this one.

The Steelers are 2-0 this season and QB Ben Roethlisberger (559 yards, 6 TD, 3 INT) has looked like his usual self thus far. In Week 1, he threw for 300 yards with three touchdowns and one pick against the Redskins and he followed that performance up with 259 yards, three touchdowns and two picks against the Bengals. As long as WR Antonio Brown (12 rec, 165 yards, 2 TD) is healthy, this passing offense will remain as explosive as any in the league. RB DeAngelo Williams (237 yards, 2 TD) has, however, been the guy that has really catapulted this team to its undefeated record. Williams is leading the league in rushing this season and has been flawless as a Le’Veon Bell replacement. He has one more week as the Pittsburgh starter and should be able to find plenty of running room against this Philly defense. As for the other side of the ball, the Steelers must find a way to get after Carson Wentz in this one. The rookie has been remarkable through two games this season, but he is still a young quarterback and Pittsburgh needs to make sure he is uncomfortable in this one.

The Eagles have surprised a lot of people by opening up the season with two wins and a lot of that has to do with the play of QB Carson Wentz (468 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT). Wentz doesn’t have huge numbers this season, but he also happens to be playing with a rather mediocre group of weapons. He is getting a lot out of what he has and the most impressive thing about Went is his poise. The rookie does not have a single turnover this season and he looks like a veteran when making adjustments at the line of scrimmage. He’ll need to find a way to keep his cool on Sunday as well, as things will be difficult against an elite Pittsburgh team. When going to the air, Wentz will likely be looking at WR Jordan Matthews (13 rec, 185 yards, 1 TD) in this one. Matthews has looked excellent this season, but he has had some trouble with drops. He wasn’t able to reel in a perfect pass from Wentz that would have been a touchdown against the Bears last week, and miscues like that must disappear moving forward. Defensively, stopping the run might actually be the most important thing for the Eagles in this one. Antonio Brown is obviously one of the best players in football, but Philadelphia can’t afford to let DeAngelo Williams get whatever he wants on the ground on Sunday.
