OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

at SAN ANTONIO SPURS

Tip-off: Saturday, 8:35 p.m. ET
Line: N/A

The Spurs will be going for their third straight victory when they host the Thunder on Saturday.

Oklahoma City has struggled a bit recently and the team will likely be fatigued in this one after facing an energetic Minnesota team on Friday night. Still, the Thunder will be hoping to make a statement by defeating the Spurs in San Antonio on Saturday. It won’t be easy, though, as the Spurs have won two straight games and 10 of their past 11 heading into this game. The Thunder did win the last meeting between these two teams, though. Oklahoma City won 112-106 as a four-point home favorite against San Antonio on Oct. 28. It was the only meeting between these teams on the season, and the Spurs hold the edge in this head-to-head series in recent years. In the past 10 meetings between these teams, San Antonio is 6-4 both SU and ATS. One thing that bodes well for the Spurs in this game is the fact that the Thunder are a miserable 8-20-2 ATS when playing on the road this season. The Spurs, meanwhile, remain unbeaten in San Antonio SU and are 20-11 ATS in those contests.

The Thunder will be looking to hand the Spurs their first home loss of the season on Saturday. If that is going to happen, SF Kevin Durant will need to be on top of his game in this one. He really struggled to score against Kawhi Leonard in their last meeting, finishing the game with 22 points on an inefficient 6-for-19 shooting from the floor. That type of game is not like Durant and he’ll need to choose his spots more wisely this time around. PG Russell Westbrook will also be counted on to dominate this one. He was superb the last time he met this Spurs team, finishing the game with 33 points and 10 assists in 37 minutes of action. He’ll be going up against Tony Parker this time around and Parker has not looked good lately. Westbrook must be aggressive from the opening tip and attack the basket at will. If he can do that then the Thunder will have a shot to win this thing on the road.

The Spurs were able to defeat the Thunder in the last meeting between these two teams and that was because SF Kawhi Leonard badly outplayed Kevin Durant. Leonard was able to give the Thunder superstar all sorts of problems defensively and he also poured in 32 points offensively in that game. If he can get it going like that then the Spurs should have no trouble defending their home court in this one. Two guys that will need to be better for San Antonio in this one are PF LaMarcus Aldridge and PG Tony Parker. The two of them combined for just 21 points the last time these teams met and that is not going to cut it on Saturday. Aldridge has scored 23+ points in each of the past three games and is far too big of a part of this offense to score just 11 points again. Parker, meanwhile, needs to find a way to hold his own against Westbrook.
