The Open Championship Prop Bets

Tees Off: Thursday, July 16th
St. Andrews Old Course – Fife, Scotland

Top American: Brandt Snedeker (+1800)
It has been a great run for Jordan Spieth while both Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler are playing some tremendous golf, but Snedeker is ready to join the ranks of being a major champion. This week he will be playing at St. Andrews for the first time in the Open Championship and when he gets on the huge greens, his top tier putting (0.633 strokes-gained putting, 5th on TOUR) should give him a leg up on the field. He is no stranger to being in contention come Sunday at majors, ranking in the top-10 seven different times over his career and held a late lead at this event back in 2012 before posting a final day 74 and losing out to Ernie Els. Snedeker is running hot entering the event, stringing together four consecutive top-10s; including an eighth at the links style course during the U.S. Open. The 34-year-old seems to have the ability to be near the top of the leaderboard each and every week and much of the same should be expected at St. Andrews .

Winning Margin: Playoff (+300)
Over the last three visits to the Old Course, the victors have dominated the rest of the field by an average of 6.7 strokes, but that trend is sure to change given the leveling of the playing field lately. Although Spieth has proven he is the man to beat, he is not going out there week in and week out winning by tons of strokes, but rather has earned four of his five career victories in extra holes. Before Louis Oosthuizen’s big week here in 2010, where he carded a score of 16-under-par and defeated Lee Westwood by seven strokes, the course was owned by none other than Tiger Woods; who won here in both 2000 and 2005 by an average of 6.5 strokes. At that time, Woods was on a different level than anyone else had been in the history of golf and was able to separate himself from the field in historic ways. Now, with that playing field coming back to a more level surface, it should allow for another fantastic finish between a few of the best golfers in the world.

Will Adam Scott finish in the top-20: Yes (-135)
Scott has one major to his name, but has been struggling this year compared to the past with just four top-25s in his 10 PGA Tour events. Despite that, he has still been one of the best players under the big lights of major championships and has finished in the top-20 at 14 of his last 18 such events and was in the top-five seven times during that stretch. Of the four majors, this has been his favorite with an average finish of 3.3 in his last three visits with his best showing coming in 2010 when he shot a Sunday 75 and allowed Ernie Els to gain seven strokes and defeat him by one shot. Scott still has some time with his anchored putter and that should allow him to keep putting up great performances

Winning Nationality?: Rest of World (+260)
The best odds certainly sit with the United States as they put forth Spieth, Johnson and Fowler as the top-three favorites this week, and they are followed by the Europeans who boast Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson as the top two according to Vegas. The return on either of these nationalities is just not too great and the names that are outside of these two major areas are still phenomenal. Australian-born players such as Jason Day and Adam Scott will lead the way and be joined by 2010 Open Championship winner, South African Louis Oosthuizen, and top Asian-born player; Hideki Matsuyama. The top echelon of golfers may be from the U.S. and Europe, but there are just too many options outside of them who could take down the trophy.

First Round Leader: Rickie Fowler (+2500)
Fowler has been competitive in most of the recent majors, placing in the top-five at each one last year and did well at the Masters (12th) earlier in 2015. He is coming off a nice victory at the Scottish Open last week and will be feeling fresh after staying in the same general area. Fowler proved that he can win when on the biggest of stages with his gritty win at the PLAYERS Championship and it is clear that his work in the offseason at closing out tournaments paid off. Fowler should get off to a great start and will be one of the favorites to take home the win as the week comes to an end.
