PHOENIX SUNS (21-16)

at MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (5-28)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 9:35 p.m. ET
Line: Phoenix -8, Total: 214.5

The Suns go for their fourth straight victory when they visit the dreadful Timberwolves who haven't won since Dec. 10.

Phoenix went into Milwaukee on Tuesday night and won 102-96 as a 4.5-point road favorite, giving the club three straight wins (SU and ATS) and nine victories in the past 11 contests (10-1 ATS). Minnesota, on the other hand, has now lost 12 straight games (4-8 ATS) after a 110-101 home defeat by Denver on Monday. The last time these two teams met was March 23, 2014, when the Suns won 127-120 as 2-point road underdogs. These teams have split wins SU in four games at Target Center over the past three seasons, but Phoenix is 3-1 ATS in those contests. Over the past two seasons, the Suns are 42-19 ATS in road games, and they are also 10-2 ATS this season after having won four or five of their previous six games on the season. Phoenix also has the luxury of playing against a Timberwolves team that is 15-40 ATS in home games after three straight games of allowing opponents to shoot 47% or higher since 1996. SFs Chase Budinger (illness) and Robbie Hummel (illness) are both listed as questionable for Minnesota in this game, while the Suns are virtually injury-free.

The Suns picked up a big win in Milwaukee on Tuesday and it was PF Markieff Morris (15.4 PPG, 5.9 RPG) who did the heavy lifting. Morris finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes of action. He should be able to repeat that success against a team that likes to play an up-tempo style. SG Goran Dragic (16.7 PPG, 4.0 APG, 3.7 RPG) finished the game against Milwaukee with 16 points and six rebounds. He値l need to be aggressive against the Timberwolves, as the team is very weak at guarding the perimeter. PG Eric Bledsoe (16.5 PPG, 6.1 APG, 5.2 RPG) had one of his worst offensive games of the season against the Bucks on Tuesday, finishing with just 10 points (3-of-10 FG, 0-for-4 threes) with seven turnovers in 38 minutes. He did, however, have 10 assists, six rebounds and two steals in the game. He値l need to be more aggressive shooting the ball against the Timberwolves, as he is this team痴 best scorer. Despite the off night, he is still averaging 19.4 PPG, 7.4 APG and 4.6 RPG over the past five games. PG Isaiah Thomas (14.7 PPG, 3.8 APG) has been big off the bench the past two games, averaging 18.5 PPG and 2.5 SPG in those contests. He値l need to provide a spark for a team that could be tired on Wednesday.

The Timberwolves have been one of the worst teams in basketball all season long, and they値l now try to snap a 12-game losing skid against one of the hottest teams in the league. One positive for Minnesota recently has been the improved play of SG Andrew Wiggins (13.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.1 SPG). The rookie has now scored at least 20 points in four straight games and six of the past seven contests. In the month of January, he痴 averaging 22.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 2.0 SPG, and should be in for another solid performance against a Suns team that gives up a lot of points. C Gorgui Dieng (9.8 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.7 BPG) is another player that could give the Suns a lot of problems. Dieng had 22 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in Monday's loss to the Nuggets, and will now face a Phoenix team that is very thin at the center position. His size should be able to disrupt a lot of shots on the defensive end and Dieng is a capable finisher around the rim. One player who will need to play well for Minnesota is SF Thaddeus Young (13.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.7 SPG). Young will be matched up with Markieff Morris for a large majority of this game, and he値l need to slow Morris down if the Timberwolves are going to snap their nearly month-long losing skid.
