UTAH UTES (7-1)

vs. KANSAS JAYHAWKS (7-1)

Sprint Center - Kansas City, MO
Tip-off: Saturday, 3:15 p.m.
Line: Kansas -3, Total: 133.5

The No. 10 Kansas Jayhawks take on No. 13 Utah Utes at the Sprint Center on Saturday.

The Jayhawks (5-3 ATS, 5-2 OVER) were written off early in the season after a 32-point loss to Kentucky, but Bill Self’s team has bounced back in a big way. KU picked up a big road victory against Georgetown on Wednesday. The Jayhawks play a game each year at the Sprint Center, and they lost last year to San Diego State, 61-57. KU will be at full strength on Saturday, as power forward Jamari Traylor is back from a one-game suspension. Utah (6-2 ATS, 6-2 OVER) has played a very difficult schedule up to this point, defeating teams like BYU and Wichita State. The defense of the Utes has been the biggest reason that the team is having so much success, as they have not allowed more 68 points since the season opener.

The experts have begun the 2014-15 season with a bang, posting a collective 57% ATS mark (63-47) in Best Bets. The five experts are led by StatFox Gary's stellar 71% ATS mark (15-6), while StatFox Brian is 64% ATS (14-8) and StatFox Zach is 59% ATS (13-9) to open the season.

The Jayhawks have bounced back nicely since the Kentucky loss, and enter this game ranked 42ndth in rebounding (39.9 RPG), 148th in scoring (70.1 PPG) and 227th in assists (11.9 APG). The KU basketball team has done a nice job of getting many different players to contribute for them, and on Wednesday night, it was Brannen Greene (6.4 PPG, 1.8 RPG and 52 % from threes) who stepped up. Greene scored 19 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the 3-point line in the victory. His ability to hit the outside shot will open up easy scoring opportunities in the paint for the Jayhawks leading scorer (14.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 42 % from the field). Ellis has struggled at times this season shooting from the field, but is the go-to scorer for KU. Frank Mason III (10.6 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 3.4 APG), Wayne Selden Jr. (9.3 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 3.3 APG) and Cliff Alexander (9.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 55 % from the field) are all players more than capable of scoring for the Jayhawks. Selden Jr. is emerging as the team’s best playmaker, as he is the best Jayhawk at getting his own shot.

The Utes are one of the more efficient teams in the country, as Utah ranks 10th in scoring (51.6 % from the field), 30th in scoring (78.6 PPG), 57th in rebounding (39.0 RPG) and 76th in assists (14.8 APG). Delon Wright (15.4 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 4.9 APG) has become one of the most complete players at the point guard, as he is capable of taking over a game in many different ways. He is a difficult matchup at the point guard position with his 6-foot-5 frame, and he does a great job of getting the defender on his hip. Utah has gotten a huge contribution from freshman center Jakob Poelti (11.3 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 2.9 BPG), who has given the team a true presence in the paint. With Jordan Loveridge (11.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG and 50 % from threes) out to injury, the Utes need to continue to get strong performances from Brandon Taylor (10.3 PPG, 2.8 APG and 2.4 RPG).
