DUKE BLUE DEVILS (7-0)

at WISCONSIN BADGERS (7-0)

Kohl Center - Madison, WI
Tip-off: Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. ET
Line: Wisconsin -3.5, Total: 136.5

Top 5 teams collide on Wednesday night as No. 4 Duke travels to Madison to take on No. 2 Wisconsin in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Blue Devils (5-2 ATS) are looking to remain undefeated on the season, but will be facing their most difficult test by a wide margin. The freshmen are getting a lot of the talk at Duke, as they account for 51% of the team’s hefty 90.4 PPG scoring thus far on the season. While the Blue Devils have a victory against a current Top 25 team in No. 19 Michigan State, this will be the first true road test for young Duke players. While the Blue Devils rely on a bunch on freshmen, the Badgers bring back a ton of experience from last year’s Final Four team. Wisconsin is shooting 50.5% from the field this year, and the Badgers are 18-6 ATS the past three seasons when they shoot 47 to 53% from the field in a game. Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski has been involved in 36 games involving top-5 teams, going 23-13 SU in those games, but only 5-6 on the road. For the Badgers (6-1 ATS), they are 1-2 in top-5 matchups, all of which came against Ohio State in the 2006-2007 season. These schools last met in 2009 in Madison when Wisconsin eked out a 73-69 win as a 5-point underdog. There are no significant injuries for either school.

The experts have begun the 2014-15 season with a bang, posting a collective 60% ATS mark (47-32) in Best Bets. The five experts are led by StatFox Gary's stellar 67% ATS mark (12-6), while StatFox Zach is 63% ATS (10-6), and StatFox Brian is 60% ATS (9-6) to open the season.

The Blue Devils have been an offensive juggernaut early in the season, ranking second in the nation in assists (20.1 APG), fifth in scoring (90.4 PPG) and eighth in shooting (52.7% FG). Unlike the past couple seasons, Duke has a guy on the block that can score 20 points on any given night in C Jahlil Okafor (17.7 PPG, 64% FG, 7.9 RPG). Okafor is an extremely talented player, who has the post moves of an experienced veteran in the NBA. He can go over both shoulders, while he is also able to hit the 15-foot jumper if needed. He will have a difficult matchup in this game though, as Frank Kaminsky can be very difficult to shoot over with his 7-foot frame. PG Quinn Cook (15.0 PPG, 4.0 APG, 3.3 RPG) and SG Tyus Jones (8.9 PPG, 6.0 APG, 1.7 SPG) have played very well together in the backcourt, complementing each other’s game. That was a question mark headed into the season, but Cook has taken on more of a scoring role for the Blue Devils this season. SF Justise Winslow (13.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.0 APG) may not get as much of the talk as his fellow freshmen, but he may be the guy who helps make this team a Final Four contender. Okafor and Jones have been very good, but it is Winslow who has come in and shown he can also affect a game in many different ways. He is a glue guy who has the ability to be one of the very best defenders in college basketball. He may see a lot of time Wednesday night on Sam Dekker, who is one of the more versatile players in college basketball.

Bo Ryan is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in college basketball, and he may have his best team during his time at Wisconsin. The Badgers aren’t putting up a ton of points (74.6 PPG, 81st in nation), but they shoot the ball very well, ranking 19th in the country with 50.5% FG. The Blue Devils have some great athletes that can get out and run, but the Badgers don’t allow opponents many fast-break opportunities, as they only turn the ball over 9.3 times per game (6th-lowest in nation). For the season, Wisconsin has given up only 50.6 PPG (6th in nation) on 37.1% FG. C Frank Kaminksy (16.6 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 41% threes) is one of the most difficult matchups in college basketball. He has the ability to score in many ways in the post, but he can also step out and hit the three-pointer. He will be a very difficult matchup for Okafor, as the freshman has not faced a big guy like Kaminsky. If he is able to hit a couple shots early and pull Okafor away from the basket, then the Badgers will be able to have some opportunities for the backdoor cuts to the hoop. PF Nigel Hayes (13.6 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.9 APG) and SF Sam Dekker (12.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.3 APG) are two forwards who play both inside and out. Wisconsin does a great job of finding the mismatch, and exploiting it. The Blue Devils do have some smaller guards, and if one of them gets matched up against either of these two guys, Wisconsin will give them the ball on the block and let them go to work. The Badgers backcourt doesn’t get a lot of talk, but it is the perfect duo for Ryan’s team. PG Traevon Jackson (8.4 PPG, 3.1 APG, 1.6 RPG) and SG Josh Gasser (5.9 PPG, 3.0 RPG. 46% threes) are always in command of the offense, and have the experience and poise to help their team win a tough game late.
