MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (42-28)

at UTAH JAZZ (23-48)

Tip-off: Wednesday, 10:35 p.m. ET
Line: Memphis -7.5, Total: 185

The red-hot Memphis Grizzlies head to Utah on Wednesday night to take on the worst team in the Western Conference; the Jazz.

Memphis has been playing at the top of their game recently as they are 11-4 SU and 9-6 ATS over the past month. They have been victorious both SU and ATS in each of their last two games as they faced the Pacers and Timberwolves. The Grizzlies halted the high-paced offense of Minnesota on Monday night, coming away with a 109-92 win as 7.5-point favorites. The Timberwolves were held to a meager 37.8% shooting in the game which marked the third time in the last five games that Memphis has held their opponents under 38% shooting. Utah has had their struggles this year with a very young core of players leading to inconsistent play. They have lost 12 of their last 14 games SU (3-9-2 ATS) coming into this contest, including an embarrassing 114-94 loss at home to Detroit on Monday. The Jazz were out-rebounded by 16 in the game and allowed the Pistons to shoot an incredible 46-for-83 (55.4% FG) from the floor. This game will be the start of a five-game road trip for the Grizzlies and they have gone 19-14 SU (18-14 ATS) away from home this season. Utah has been unable to do a good job defending their home court and sport a 15-20 SU record while going 15-19 ATS in front of their fans. These teams have already played the first two games of this four-game season series, with both games being played in Memphis and the Grizzlies winning SU. The Jazz were able to cover the 11.5-point spread in the last contest, though, losing 96-86 on the road. Over the past three seasons, Memphis is 6-3 SU in this matchup with Utah holding a slight edge ATS (5-4). Bettors should take notice of a few trends for each team in this one, as the Grizzlies have gone 29-16 ATS (64.4%) after a win by 10 points or more over the last two seasons and the Jazz are 11-2 ATS after failing to cover four of their last five ATS over the last two seasons. As far as injuries are concerned, Memphis will have SG Tony Allen (Stomach) listed as questionable while SF Quincy Pondexter (Foot) is out for the season. SG Alex Burks (Ankle) is expected to miss this game for Utah.

Memphis’ M.O. is a stringent defense which has shut down opponents to the tune of 94.0 PPG (3rd in the NBA). They have done even better over their last five games, allowing the teams they face to score a miniscule 83.4 PPG (40% FG). The Grizzlies are not as skilled on the offensive side of things, though, scoring just 95.7 PPG (5th-worst in the league) this season. PG Mike Conley (17.2 PPG, 6.0 APG, 1.5 SPG) has been tremendous over the last two games, averaging 22.0 PPG (67% FG), 5.0 APG and 5.0 RPG. He has not been as good against the Jazz in two games this year, though, scoring just 12.0 PPG (35% FG) to go along with 6.0 APG. PF Zach Randolph (17.2 PPG, 10.1 RPG) was extremely efficient on Monday against the Pacers, hitting 7-of-11 shots for 17 points and has been great (21.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 5.0 APG) against Utah this season (2 games). C Marc Gasol (13.8 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.4 BPG) has been playing through a Grade 1 ankle sprain but managed a solid double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) on Monday night. He played one game against the Jazz this year, putting up 20 points and 10 rebounds, and has averaged 12.8 PPG (51% FG) with 6.8 RPG over 19 career games facing them.

The Jazz have been unable to keep up with opposing teams as they are scoring just 94.5 PPG (2nd-worst in the league) this season. They have been even worse in their last five contests, scoring just 91.8 PPG (43% FG) while allowing 108.8 PPG (52% FG) to their opponents. The defense has not been quite as bad throughout the entire season, giving up 101.4 PPG (15th in the NBA). SG Gordon Hayward (15.9 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.3 APG) was the one bright spot in the loss to Detroit, netting 32 points (10-of-16 FG) while dishing out six assists. He has had incredible games against Memphis this year, averaging near a triple-double with 16.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG and 7.0 APG to go along with 2.0 BPG and 1.5 SPG. C Derrick Favors (12.8 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.4 BPG) has been extremely inconsistent this year and scored only four points while contributing in other areas (9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block) in his most recent contest. In the two games against the Grizzlies on the season, Favors has 11.0 PPG (52% FG) while grabbing 7.0 RPG. PG Trey Burke (12.8 PPG, 5.3 APG) has been hot over his last three games with 16.0 PPG and has averaged 17.0 PPG (43% FG) with 5.5 APG against Memphis so far in his rookie campaign.
