ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (72-72)

at LOS ANGELES DODGERS (85-59)

First pitch: Wednesday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Line: Los Angeles -125, Arizona +115, Total: 7

The Dodgers try to run their home winning streak to seven games when they look to complete a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.

Scott Van Slyke's pinch-hit homer in the 11th inning on Tuesday gave Los Angeles its 18th win in its past 22 home games, improving the club's record to an amazing 55-17 (.764) since June 22. It also gives the Dodgers their fifth straight victory over Arizona, outscoring the D-backs 32-11 during this run. Arizona left-hander Patrick Corbin (13-6, 2.97 ERA) will try to halt this series skid when he faces fellow southpaw Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-5, 3.02 ERA) on Wednesday night. The Diamondbacks are just 32-41 on the road this year, but are 23-21 with a .271 BA versus left-handed starters. Los Angeles is a stellar 45-28 at home, but a mediocre 24-22 against southpaw starters. Despite the Dodgers' recent series dominance, the Diamondbacks hold a 29-21 advantage in this matchup in the past three seasons, including 17-9 at Dodger Stadium. This year, the clubs have split 14 meetings, with Arizona going 5-3 in Los Angeles.

Corbin (1.08 WHIP) is in the midst of an outstanding season, leading his team to a 21-7 record when he takes the hill. But the Diamondbacks have lost each of Corbin's past three starts where he carries a 7.86 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Although Friday's start at San Francisco was pretty strong (8 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's), Corbin has been much worse on the road this season, going 5-4 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. The lefty has pitched very well against the Dodgers in four career starts though, going 2-1 (team is 3-1) with a 2.42 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, but the worst of those outings occurred on June 12 in Dodger Stadium when he was touched up for four runs on eight hits in five innings of work. 3B Juan Uribe (2-for-4) and 2B Mark Ellis (2-for-6) are the only current Dodgers with more than one career hit off Corbin, as the left-hander has really baffled OF Andre Ethier (1-for-11, 5 K's), OF Jerry Hairston Jr. (1-for-9) and 1B Adrian Gonzalez (1-for-6, 3 K's). Corbin averages 6.8 innings per start this year, but has also seen his bullpen convert just 34-of-58 saves (59%) despite a strong 3.34 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

Ryu (1.22 WHIP) has led his L.A. team to an 18-8 mark in his rookie season, including a phenomenal 10-3 record at home where he's personally 7-2 with a 2.07 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Ryu has been dealing with back problems, which is why he hasn't pitched yet in September. In his most recent start on Aug. 30, he held the Padres to one run on eight hits over 6.1 innings, fanning six and walking only one. Despite his stellar rookie campaign, Ryu has been roughed up by Arizona this season, going 1-0 despite a 5.82 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in three outings. In the past two meetings with the D-backs, Ryu has given up eight runs on 18 hits in 11 frames, walking four and fanning five. Arizona star 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 4-for-8 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI off Ryu, while 3B Martin Prado is 3-for-7 with 2 RBI and two walks, and OF A.J. Pollock is 3-for-8 with a double and triple off the rookie southpaw. Ryu averages 6.4 innings per start, but the team may not stretch him out past five innings because of his recent back troubles with plenty of available arms during an expanded rosters period in baseball. The Dodgers bullpen has been pretty strong this season with a 27-22 record, 3.49 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Los Angeles relievers have been even better at home, going 14-8 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.30 WHIP while converting 22-of-28 saves (79%).
