PHOENIX (AP) - Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss says the daily grind of being back in the majors this year is what he remembered, with one exception.

``What's different is I'm responsible for more people now. The losses sting more,'' he said.

The Rockies fell for the 82nd time on Sunday, beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2. Colorado was assured of its third straight losing season.

Since advancing to the World Series in 2007, the Rockies are a cumulative 50 games under .500 and have posted only one winning season.

Weiss played 14 seasons in the majors before he was hired last November from the baseball team at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo.

``It's been what I expected,'' Weiss said.

What happens after this season to Weiss remains to be seen. He signed a one-year contract and isn't even sure exactly when it expires.

``I haven't looked at it,'' he said, adding that he hasn't heard from the front office about his fate.

Jhoulyn Chacin (13-9), the Rockies' most reliable starter this season, was unable to keep Colorado close.

Chacin lasted a season-low four innings, allowing six runs - four earned - on seven hits with three walks.

``I just wasn't throwing strikes,'' Chacin said. ``I was pitching up, overthrowing my pitches. I didn't make my pitches at any point in the game.''

Paul Goldschmidt homered and went 4 for 4, driving in career high-tying five runs for Arizona. He leads the NL with 114 RBIs.

Goldschmidt had an RBI single in the first inning, hit a two-run homer in the third and added a two-run double in the fourth, all against Chacin.

``He's been really good,'' Weiss said. ``You're going to have some games where you don't have your `A' stuff. I didn't want him to try and grind through another inning of this game. He's been grinding all year.''

Pinch-hitter Charlie Culberson homered for the Rockies, who have lost two straight and seven of their past nine.

Colorado star Todd Helton did not play, a day announcing he would retire after this season. The crowd at Chase Field cheered him early in the game and he waved his cap in appreciation.

Randall Delgado (5-6) allowed two runs and five hits in six innings for the Diamondbacks, who won have won three of four.

``It's been a struggle offensively on the road,'' Weiss said.

Culberson's first career pinch-hit home run pulled Colorado within 6-2 in the fifth. Matt Davidson hit his first career homer in the bottom half to make it 7-2.

NOTES: Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki was 2 for 4 and has seven hits in past 14 at-bats. ... Weiss has not announced a starter for Monday's game against St. Louis.
