HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt threw a bullpen session prior to Wednesday afternoon's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Oswalt, who has been on the disabled list with a hip injury since Saturday, threw between 40-50 pitches during his 10-minute session.
"I didn't throw 100 percent," Oswalt told the Astros' official web site. "I threw about 75 to 80 percent, and it feels pretty good. I'll know a lot more Friday, when I throw 100 percent and see how I feel."
Oswalt has not pitched in a game since July 11, when he left his start vs. the Washington Nationals after one inning due to a strained left hip abductor he suffered two weeks earlier. The righthander is expected to pitch next Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.
But before slating in Oswalt for Monday's contest, Astros manager Cecil Cooper wants to evaluate the three-time All-Star's next bullpen session Friday.
"The biggest thing is no matter how hard you push yourself in the bullpen, once you get a hitter in front of you, you always crank it up a little bit more," Oswalt said. "The best thing about it is my mechanics are good enough to make my body take all the load instead of my arm."
A two-time 20-game winner, Oswalt is just 7-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 19 starts this season. |
