Today we are going to go right to the heart of football handicapping, analyzing the merits of running and passing the football. Our esteemed panelists have entirely contradicting views on the subject, so this should be entertaining. Doug brings a run-first handicapping mentality with historical results to back it up. AFC Title Game Rematch Highlight's Week 3 Action
After dueling at Heinz Field for the 2004-05 AFC Title, conference powers New England and Pittsburgh once again meet, and once again at the Steelers' home field. The showdown is this week's FREE NFL FoxSheet of the Week! This will be the third meeting in the last year between these suddenly emerging rivals. Pittsburgh will be looking to extend its regular season winning streak to 18 games, while the Patriots will be seeking to get back on the winning track while proving they are still the team to beat in the AFC. The Steelers have opened as a 3 point favorite, with the total set at 42.

Pittsburgh has looked spectacular in its first two season games, wins over Tennessee and Houston. Behind Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers have gained an incredible 14.7 yards per pass attempt. Substitute RB Willie Parker's sterling effort certainly hasn't hurt either. Meanwhile, New England's first two contests were split, but in neither did the Patriots play up to the Super Bowl standards fans have come to judge them by. This is a tough spot for them as well, as in last year's regular season meeting, the Steelers dominated the Pats, winning 34-20. This matchup is as much of a statement game as anything else and with that in mind here are some of the best handicapping nuggets from the FREE NFL FoxSheet:
StatFox Situational Power Trends favoring PITTSBURGH to cover the spread

Big Ten Contenders Collide to Open Conference Season
Barry Alvarez and his Wisconsin Badgers get one more shot at the Michigan Wolverines in Madison on Saturday, before the sun sets on his stellar coaching career. Alvarez, who announced his coaching retirement following this season, has rightfully been credited with guiding Wisconsin's football program to heights never before reached. However, his teams have struggled against rival Michigan. StatFox puts the spotlight on this huge Big Ten showdown by making it the FREE College Football FoxSheet of the Week!

Opening as a 2-1/2 point road favorite, Michigan has won the last six meetings of this series, with the last five coming by a TD or less. In fact, Wisconsin hasn't beaten Michigan at home since Alvarez's inaugural Rose Bowl season of '93. However, the 3-0 Badgers have played better football so far in 2005, so perhaps this is the year they turn the tables. Michigan, sitting currently at 2-1, faces a difficult task, as they have struggled as a road favorite under Lloyd Carr, going just 13-25 ATS. Here are some other great pieces of information from the FoxSheets that can help you get prepared to score on Saturday's game:

StatFox Matchup Power Trends against similar type opponents favoring WISCONSIN to cover the spread
WISCONSIN is 20-8 ATS (+11.2 Units) vs. good defensive teams who give up 17 or less points/game since 1992. The average score was WISCONSIN 18.4, OPPONENT 18.9 - (Rating = 1*)
